Green Builder Takes Spray Foam Company To The Next Level

HUDSON VALLEY, NY – March 18, 2014 – Spray foam has shown definitive signs of growth in the last few years, with a consistently growing interest among homeowners who seek energy efficiency and comfortable living. However, a product is only as good as the people managing the contracting company that installs it. Case in point: Richard and Sita Spoto, who acquired EcoTech Spray Foam, and combined their customer service and marketing expertise to grow the company based in New York’s Hudson Valley.

The Spotos are no strangers to business management. Aside from EcoTech, they have been operating a construction company for the past 12 years. According to manager Richard Spoto, their construction company started utilizing spray polyurethane foam in some of their projects, and gradually became their main material for thermal insulation in nearly 90 percent of their commercial and residential projects. To build on their well-established business, they saw a unique, lucrative opportunity in taking the reigns of a company that specializes in SPF installations.

“EcoTech is major player in our region, as far as spray foam goes,” said Spoto. “When the opportunity came to purchase the company, I leapt at it because I knew we could help it grow by our own efforts.”

Since Spoto’s acquisition of EcoTech on January 11, 2014, and with the addition of a spray rig to complement the existent two EcoTech rigs, the company has shown higher numbers since it began operations five years before.

“We have really taken this company to the next level after having a company record January,” said Spoto. “In the first few weeks of February, I have already had as many spray foam installations as I did in the entire month of January. Even though I know foam, I didn’t expect to do so well in such a short amount of time.”

Spoto attributed EcoTech’s success to a portfolio of ENERGY STAR-certified homes and a wealth of green building knowledge.

“I am a green builder, and I consider spray foam the basis of all green building,” said Spoto. “I am really looking forward to what’s ahead, I have a lot of ideas that I want to bring to fruition, and I hope to bring EcoTech to the same level as my construction company.”

Spoto mentioned that another contributing factor to spray foam’s success in their service area is that building codes are getting stricter and materials such as fiberglass and cellulose are becoming sub-par materials when it comes to meeting building code requirements.

“The last thing I want to do is have a blower door test fail right before I’m about to hand the keys to a customer because I didn’t use the right insulation,” said Spoto. “I see spray foam exploding even further than it is, it is only a matter of time before it becomes an actual requirement.”

Spoto noted that since he took over, customer service was substantially increased in that response time for a job lead went from one or two weeks to less than 24 hours.

“We are attempting to answer a lead call, get the estimate done, and get back to the customer in the shortest amount of time that is humanly possibly,” said Spoto.

In addition to an expedited response time, EcoTech now have a thermal imaging camera that is utilized to ascertain the problem areas within a given site.

Among Spoto’s business tactics is his ability to market his company and spray foam’s benefits so well that he is generating an average of leads that fluctuates between 30 to 40 per month. EcoTech’s website and Facebook page are crucial marketing tools. Since new ownership took charge two months ago, EcoTech’s Facebook page went from 8 to almost 1,000 “likes.”

Spoto’s outlook on the spray foam industry is extremely positive, deeming the industry as a prominent vehicle that has no way to go but up.

“Because there is such a high demand for spray foam, I expect a 40 to 50 percent increase from what EcoTech’s last years’ numbers looked like this year alone – and that’s a conservative projection,” said Spoto.
